The Sumter P-15's, sponsored by American Legion Post 15, boast a rich history as one of the most enduring American Legion Baseball programs in the United States. Established in 1929, the team has been active every year since, making it the second-oldest continuously operating American Legion Baseball program in the nation.

🏛️ Founding and Early Leadership:  The inception of American Legion Baseball in South Carolina in 1929 was significantly influenced by two esteemed Sumter residents and Post 15 members: George D. Levy, who served as Department Commander, and John B. Duffie, the Department Athletic Officer. Their efforts were instrumental in bringing the program to the Palmetto State.

In its formative years, the Sumter program was led by Legionnaire John J. Riley, who served as both Post Athletic Officer and Head Coach for the first sixteen years. His tenure concluded in 1945 upon his election to the U.S. House of Representatives. In recognition of his contributions, Sumter's baseball field was named Riley Park in 1947.

⚾ Continued Leadership and Achievements: Following Riley, the program saw dedicated leadership from individuals such as Gifford W. Shaw, D.B. "Skeet" James (1947–1972), Thomas "Bucko" Eden (1972–2000), and Jimmy Hodge, who assumed the role in 2001. Under their guidance, the P-15's have hosted numerous sectional and regional tournaments, reflecting the program's commitment to excellence.

🏆 Championship Legacy:  The P-15's have a storied championship history, securing South Carolina state titles in the years: 1940, 1950, 1952, 1962, 1977, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1999, 2005, 2006, 2008, and 2010. Notably, the team advanced to the American Legion World Series in 2006, finishing fourth nationally, and made additional appearances in 2008 and 2009.

🏟️ Riley Park: The Home of P-15's BaseballRiley Park, named in honor of Congressman John J. Riley, serves as the home field for the Sumter P-15's. This historic stadium has been a central venue for baseball in Sumter, hosting minor league teams in the past and currently accommodating collegiate teams such as the USC Sumter Fire Ants and Morris College Hornets.

🙌 Community Support and Legacy: The enduring success of the P-15's is a testament to the unwavering support from American Legion Post 15 members and the broader Sumter community. Their collective dedication has ensured the program's longevity and prominence in American Legion Baseball history.
