Commanders Call
At our March
meeting Staff SGT Ronald Herd from 3rd
Army was our guest speaker. Sgt Herd outlined the progress of the
move of 3rd
Army Headquarters. to Shaw AFB. The move is on time and progress on
new buildings continues. By spring 2011, more than 400 soldiers and
their families are expected to make their move to the Sumter area.
Our Baseball program
has undergone reorganization. Jimmy Hodge, long time Chairman has
stepped down to be a special consultant to baseball. Buddy Suitt is
the new Chairman, with Will Lowder leading the Sr. Team, and Robbie
Baker the head of the Jr. team.
Past Commander Newton
Brown is heading a committee to get bingo up and running. The
promoter is onboard, a location has been found, and work is underway
to regain our license from the State.
A collection was taken
for a sponsored dinner for dependants of deployed personnel at Shaw.
$470 was collected. Contact Newton Brown if you can assist, he needs
about 15 members to help.
Our membership stands
at 645. We are making a final push to reach our goal of 849 members.
We are at 76% of our goal for 2010. This month we will be accepting
nominations for officer positions for the 2010/2011 year.
Elections will be held
at the May meeting. Our speaker for the April meeting will be a
representative from the VA. Be sure to have general knowledge
questions ready.
Commander,
Henry Holland
From the Post Service
Officer
The Service Office has
been a great success. If you know a veteran that needs assistance,
please send him to me. If any member would like to learn the service
officer’s job I would be happy to train them.
My wife and I would
like to thank all those that showed appreciation for our efforts at
the post coffee shop. Stop in, get some coffee, enjoy the fellowship
and feel free to make a donation. No post money is spent running the
coffee shop; your generous donations keep it going.
Service Officer,
Paul Siegel
From the Adjutant
We will be holding a
work day at the post when the weather improves. We need all members
to help clean and make repairs to the post home.
Adjutant,
Nick
Nero
From our Chaplain
